  • Condition: The covers of these were acidic and most fell apart. This one is missing the covers and is taped along the spine. What you see is the title page. The binding is solid. The text is in good condition, with less than the usual wear for its age. There are some nicks in the last page. Some smudging here and there. Pages are yellowed but supple. Map is excellent. Plates of fossils are very good. A good example of this old report, considerably better than most. Front and back shown in pictures.

    Description

RARE VINTAGE ITEM!! ALL PLATES PRESENT!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 35
, Geology of the Perry Basin in Southeastern Maine
    . Published in
    1905
, this rare old book investigates certain strata that were purported to contain coal. It consists of 92 pages of text plus six plates, one of which is a color geologic map. The other five plates show fossils from the area.
I don't think they found any coal in their investigation, but they did find a lot of very cool fossil plants, and the plates of fossil flora are really beautiful. If I lived anywhere near this area I would be looking to collect some of them. The color geologic map is very nice. The area is near Passamaquoddy Bay and Cobscook Bay, on the mainland west of Deer Island, not far from New Brunswick.
Nice to find this will all the plates - these are often dismantled and the map and plates framed. I don't like that, but it is one of the reasons for the price on these vintage reports when they are complete.
