    Description

LAST ONE OF THESE!! LIKE MANY GREAT TITLES, I'M RUNNING OUT!!
    This is USGS Bulletin 936-K,
Tin deposits of Irish Creek, Virginia.
This locale is in Rockbridge County. Published in 1942, there can't be many of these around. The publication consists of a 26-page book and both of the original maps, which are foldout maps within the book. This is a very interesting area that contains the following cool minerals:
    Cassiterite
    Beryl
    Ilmenite
    Siderite
    Ankerite
    Fluorite
    Phenakite
    And other minerals!
This is a relatively compact area with all the workings occurring in an area about 3000 feet long, so the maps are quite specific as to the locations of veins, making this a pretty valuable tool for the mineral collector that wants to give this area a try. The tin veins were mined with trenches and underground workings and there are maps of those workings. The photo shows the book with one of the foldout maps extended. The map is of one of the underground workings. This book would make a great guide for prospecting this interesting mineralized area.
Some very nice crystals of cassiterite have been found at this
    locality
. It is probably one of the best cassiterite locations in the US.
A rare and desirable geologic publication on an interesting mining area and it is in excellent condition.
